Constructing Specification Tree Diagrams
|
Tree diagrams, also known as analytical tree, systematic diagram or hierarchy diagram, are the structural representations of a topic. They convert ideas into charts and graphs. Functioning of tree diagrams is similar to the tree functions. It consists of multiple choices or sub-parts, which come under one broad category. Trees have branches, stems, trunk, roots and tree diagrams have their head, sub-head and multiple sub-heads. In tree diagram, the head is considered to be the root of the tree, branches as the sub head and stems as the multiple sub-heads. A tree diagram can be constructed manually, through a professional or with the help of software. An individual can also construct a tree diagram, provided he has understood the information given thoroughly. It is very important to observe what all the specifications of a tree diagram are. Few of the key points while constructing a tree diagram are: * It should be prepared on a blank paper * It should be constructed on a single paper if possible * It should make optimum use of colors * It should be presentable and attractive * It should mention all the key words * It shouldnt be too descriptive * It should make full use of arrows and boxes * One should avoid writing; rather print the diagram, to make presentation appealing and eye-catching * One should avoid having too many sub-heads. It leads to confusion The way the tree diagram is presented is very important. The key words, components and content involved while constructing a tree diagram is of a prime importance. One should keep in mind that the sub-head should be linked or connected with the head. No two key words without any connection should be linked up. It may lead to error or misrepresentation. The efficiency of a tree diagram also increases or decreases with the level of understanding. If the key words are properly and clearly mentioned, then it becomes easier for the readers to understand and grasp. Usually tree diagrams are used while constructing a family tree, organization structure and institutional structure. Explaining the information using key words, makes it more eye catching than reading the entire paragraph or sentences. A systematic representation of tree diagrams helps in grasping the information for a longer time period, makes understanding and evaluating of complex topics easier and acts as a communication tool in order to explain things in detail. |
