Tree Diagrams

Tree diagram is the structural or pictorial representation of a topic. They provide multiple options and offer various choices or possibilities. Tree diagram is also known as analytical tree, systematic diagram or hierarchy diagram.

Tree diagram functions in the same manner as a tree functions. As the tree have branches, multiple stems, trunk, roots etc. In the same manner, tree diagram has its own head, sub-head and multiple sub-heads. As a tree, these heads, sub-heads and multiple sub heads are also connected with each other.

The tree diagram is used to break broad categories into smaller categories. Tree diagram helps in making the complex data simpler. It breaks the general information into the specific ones. A tree diagram is a tool which helps in sorting the entire information into groups and subgroups. Procedure for creating a tree diagram:

1. Understand the topic, project or problem in detail and mention the key word on the top or extreme left of the chart. . 2. Next stage involves asking certain question such as, how to accomplish a specific task, what is the root cause behind a problem, what are the components involved into it and so on. 3. After getting a concrete solution to the problem, one has to develop a link or relation between the two. 4. After which, a necessary check is conducted to see whether the solution researched is justified and if not, what alternatives or possibilities are there. 5. At the end one should check whether the desired result is obtained or not.
